Riverside celebrates Dickens

Riverside will be treated to a couple of days of Merry Old England when the Riverside Dickens Festival comes to town later this month.

The First Christian Church will start things off with its annual Pickwick’s Pub Night fundraiser. This year the event will be “Mr. Pickwick’s Predicament” – a Murder Mystery dinner theater.

The second night will be the Fezziwig’s Ball. The Whirled Peas Band will be playing.

The event will be in full swing when the Riverside Dickens Festival unfolds downtown. The Tavern will have entertainment throughout the two days. Author’s Salon, Hyde Park Corner and Authors’ Tea Corner will have actors as Victorian authors discussing their era and Books. Guests can take pictures for future poster printing and Letterheads.

A selection of 11 educational environments will have areas with themes such as Civil War Refugees, while East India Social Society will present Life in Victorian time. Heritage House Docents will be discussing Victorian manners and No Idle Hands will be demonstrating handiwork from the Victorian Era.

The Dickens Festival will be held from Friday, February 23 through 25. Pickwick’s Pub Night will be on Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at First Christian Church, 4055 Jurupa Avenue; Fezziwig’s Ball will be Saturday at Riverside Auditorium from 7:30 to 11:30 pm; and the festival will be Downtown Riverside between 11 Street and University Avenue in the Main Street Pedestrian Mall on Saturday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and Sunday from 9:45 am to 5:00 pm.
