Riverside will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with three events.
Riverside Art Museum, The Cheech Center and the Inlandia Institute will be bringing a festive webinar featuring a panel discussion about Cinco de Mayo and its importance to Chicanos. Panelists will be Frances J. Vasquez Ofella Valdez-Yeager, Dr. Irene M. Sanchez, Jorge Mr. Blue Hernandez, Dr. Carlos Cortes, and Jose Chavez. The panelists will be discussing the historical and cultural perspectives on Batalla de Puebla.
The program will then open up to Chicano and Latina live music, stories and poetry. The festivities will be broadcast over Zoom at 6:00 am. Although the event will be free, registration is required so viewers can get the link.
From 6:00 am until 2:00 pm, Rubidoux Swap Meet will also be celebrating the day with shopping and food. The swap meet will be located at 3770 Opal Street.
Hanger 24 will also be hosting a celebration from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Entertainment for the evening will be the Smooth Groove Band. The band will be playing Tex-Mex, Cumbias, Rock Blues, and R&B. Fans of bands like these often buy and wear merchandise featuring the group’s Logo Design during events like this. Others may choose to attend in colorful Mexican and Latina dress to add to the event ambiance.
The Cinco de Mayo celebrations will take place on Wednesday, May 5th.
