Riverside Cares holds December events

To reduce the stress the holidays can often bring, Riverside Cares is sponsoring a free Virtual 5k and three food distribution events next month.

The Virtual 5k will be a chance for everyone to pick their own times throughout the month of December, and their own running locations, whether it be outside on designated running courses or in their living rooms on treadmills.

The run is open to all ages. Gift cards worth $75 will go to the top two finishers in three divisions - 17 and under, 18 to 54, and 55 and older. Runners are encouraged to dress in their holiday finery and post pictures on #SpiritofRiverside social media.

Race packets including race bibs, color packets, finisher’s medals, and T-Shirts and hats sporting the event graphic design, can be picked up at the Macy Library, 6927 Magnolia Avenue.

Families that enjoy races like this together, especially at this time of year, often take pictures of themselves in their colorful holiday racing gear, and then take the photos to nearby Stationery printers to be made into Holiday Cards or added to their yearly family Calendars.

The event will begin on December 1 and runners can post their times at jrodriguez@riversideca.gov until December 31.

Riverside Cares will also distribute produce Boxes on three Thursdays during the month (December 10, 17, and 31) in Bryant Park, 7950 Philbin Avenue. Boxes will be distributed from 8:30 am until supplies are depleted.
