The day for the 2016 Mariachi Festival is quickly approaching, and once again the city will be ringing with that easy to recognize, colorful Mexican music.
Along with the music the festivities will include ballet folklorico acts from around our region. There will also be contests, Mexican food, crafts for purchase, and community art displays.
The Wild or Mild Salsa contest is open to both individuals and local restaurants. The ballet Folklorica Dance Contest will have three age divisions. Each group will get 15 minutes to show off their talent and compete for prizes. Photos taken during the performances will make good subjects for later poster printing.
The Galeria De Artes and Art Contest will have artists competing in photography, painting and drawing. Artists from middle-school age and up will be participating. The theme for this year’s festival will be ‘Liberty and the pursuit of happiness’. The judging will be done before the Galeria De Artes opens.
Tickets will be required for admission. Adult tickets will be needed for everyone 13 years old and older. Pre-sale tickets are $15 and those purchased at the door will be $20. Children aged 6 to 12 years old will need tickets that will cost $5, and younger kids will get in free.
The festivities will be Saturday, September 24, from 9:00 am until 8:30 pm at Fairmount Park, 2601 Fairmount Blvd., Riverside.
