At the end of January, Downtown Riverside will be transformed into an Asian paradise as the Asian Pacific California Association presents the Asian Pacific Lunar New Year Festival – Lunar Fest 2017. All of Riverside is invited to help celebrate the Year of the Rooster.
Festivities will begin with the Parade of Nations in the morning, followed by the Opening Ceremony. After the ceremony, the day will be filled with Taiko drums, traditional Asian music, art displays and dance performances. Martial arts demonstration will be presented throughout the day. Four stages will be featuring Asian cultural displays presented by local professional and community groups, and anime cosplayers.
A Children’s Village will have booths with arts and crafts interaction projects such as origami, calligraphy, and games. Educational tables will have demonstrations and discussions such as the ways Asian children learn and play.
The festival will come to a close with fireworks, which are traditionally said to scare off ‘evil’ spirits, welcome the New Year, and wish for luck and prosperity.
Fireworks, Asian costumes, and art Forms all add up to some colorful subjects for poster printing, and may make it into Brochures for next year’s event.
The Lunar Fest is scheduled for Saturday, January 28 in Downtown Riverside. The Parade of Nations will begin at 10:00 am. Opening ceremonies get started at 10:45 am.
