Insect events to create buzz online
Coming in mid-April, The University of California Riverside Department of Entomology will present its annual Riverside Insect Fair and the Weekend Buzz virtually this year.
Entomology graduate students will be presenting a program “A Day in My Life” about their fields of study. One such student will be Mari West. Ms. West will discuss ants and factors that impact worker ants’ performances. The students will also be addressing common insect questions and displaying various insects such as scorpions, centipedes, praying mantises, giant grasshoppers, butterflies, Stag beetles and tarantulas. Viewers will learn how to create bug collections.
Vendors will be online selling insect-related items such as treats, extermination supplies, books and plants.
The local library will have insect-themed story times and activities. The Riverside Library will be issuing digital library cards so patrons can take out books about insects.
The Insect Fair will also be offering event pins featuring this year’s gold and green insect graphic design. These plus other swag will be available in grab bags distributed around town.
Chef Roberts will again be whipping up bug-filled meals and treats.
Insect fair organizers will be leaving packets of various seeds at local Little Free Pantries throughout Riverside.
The free Riverside Insect Fair will go live on the event’s website on April 12th through April 16th and the Weekend Buzz will be from April 17th and 18th.
