Inaugural food event set to spice things up

Those in Riverside with a yen for something hot and zesty should get your their taste buds ready for The Inland Empire’s first Inland Empire Salsa Festival, to be held in a couple of weeks.

Guests can taste dozens of salsas from local restaurants and businesses and vote for their favorites. Local restaurants will also offer some of their signature cuisine along with the salsa. Live entertainment from local and professional talent will be featured on the main stage, with the host for the evening being singer Jordin Sparks.

There will also be a talent competition. The winner will receive $500, and will get to open for Baby Bash, Anthony Lewis, Eric Belinger, and A Lighter Shade of Brown at the festival.

The Ramona’s Mexican Food Salsa Tent will host a Salsa Tasting and Competition for local professional and amateur salsa chefs to win prizes, have fun, and reach Salsa Glory. The public will judge the salsa competition. The First Five Riverside Kids’ Fun Zone will keep the little ones busy.

Pre-admission tickets are $8 and general admission will be $10. Event organizers will want to get pictures of this first-time occurrence and shuffle them off to their brochure printers for next year’s advertising campaign.

The Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm at White Park in downtown Riverside.
