Panana Events will be holding its 2023 Riverside Lunar Festival in Downtown Riverside at the end of January, ushering in the Year of the Rabbit.
The opening ceremony on Mission Inn Avenue will feature lion and dragon dances, kung fu, and taiko drummers. The ceremony will be held Saturday, January 28 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
Local and regional artisans will be selling both modern and traditional items such as hand-cut paper art, terracotta dolls, Vietnamese and Chinese hand-written calligraphy, Japanese dolls, and handmade clothing and jewelry. Local artists will be creating custom paintings, drawing caricatures and manga, and applying henna.
Kids will have their own fun zone with an obstacle course, rock wall, inflatable rides, and Disney jumper. They can also enjoy a Japanese game machine corner where they can win unique prizes.
A big part of any Lunar New Year celebration is food, and this celebration will have vendors selling everything from lamb skewers and dumplings to flame-grilled squid and steamed buns, showcasing a variety of offerings from East Asia. Stationery printers often have pictures of events such as this in their spring note card sets.
The 2023 Riverside Lunar Festival will take place Saturday, January 28 from 11:00 am to Sunday, January 29 at 7:00 pm on Mission Inn Avenue between Orange and Lime. Admission will be free.
