Dickens event on the horizon in Riverside

Riverside Dickens enthusiasts and others from the surrounding area will not have to wait long for the annual author celebration.

Very shortly, the Riverside Dickens Festival will be held once more. As in prior years, there will be song, dance, street performers, and a Victorian-themed Ball.

This year will mark the 23rd year the festival has been held in Riverside and, as always, it is meant to celebrate the works of not just Charles Dickens, but other British and American authors that flourished during the Victorian Era.

There will be cultural events, writing contests, readings, recitations, art, music, dance, historical re-enactments, and lots of people wandering about dressed as figures from the 19th Century. Also, there will be plenty of booths manned by vendors selling food, clothes, novelty items and many other Victorian-related trinkets.

Those who plan to attend may want to find a costume for themselves and perhaps have banner printing done as a means of representing themselves or their group.

The festival will be held at multiple sites in and around downtown, centered at 3585 Main St, Riverside, this Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm both days. There will be no cost to attend, but there will be a wide assortment of goods for purchase. Also, some participating events will be by ticket only. The event website has the complete schedule.
