City in for teRIFFic times

Riverside film critics and aficionados will no doubt enjoy the upcoming celebration of films by innovative filmmakers and new directors.

For the 13th year, the Riverside County Film and Television Office will present its Riverside International Film Festival (RIFF) early next month. This event will be a smorgasbord of red carpet premieres, screenings, and panels of film industry experts, all interspersed with after parties.

The 10-day festival will showcase more than 100 independent shorts, documentaries, and animated films. Over the last few years, RIFF has received entries from as far away as India, Japan, Korea, China, and Germany, and of course many from all over the United States.

This year, in addition to the films, there will be music panels and performances, as music relates to the cinema. This year’s festival will also be presenting Joe Mantegna with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Film and Television. The festival benefits initiatives such as high school and college student film events and workshops and a student intern program. A networking party will be held the first night, so attendees may wish to exchange digital Business Cards.

The event is scheduled for April 3, 12:00 pm to April 12, 10:00 pm at the Box Theater in Riverside, 3635 Market Street, Riverside. The Awards Gala will be April 4, 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with the movie screening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
