The Coonley House, a home designed by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright, located in Riverside, is up for sale, and an Oak Park realtor is handling the transaction.
The 6,000 square foot home was built in the Prairie style, has five baths and five bedrooms, and is on a full acre of last. The asking price tops the $2m mark.
Even those who do not have millions to spend can still take a look at this historic home, which is on this year's Wright Plus Architectural Housewalk. If the house sells, this could be the only chance people have to see it.
The current owners bought the home in 2000 and spent approximately $2m to renovate it. They researched the building and restored it to the appearance it had when Wright first built it. The exterior has a sunken garden, art glass windows, and a reflecting pond.
The Housewalk will allow people to tour private residences in both Oak Park and Riverside, including such landmarks as the Unity Temple, the Robie House, and Wright's own Oak Park home. This is the 41st year for the tour, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 16.
Tour operators could work with brochure printers to create a booklet that describes the various properties on the tour, and make it available for sale to participants.
