The Diablo Regional Concert Band will perform in December at the Pleasant Hill branch of a local library.
The Diablo Regional Band Concert is a festival show where library patrons of all ages can enjoy a live performance from a group of experienced musicians. The band is comprised of more than 30 members and can play several genres, like show tunes, jazz, and classical songs. The group plays at many notable venues, such as the Benicia Public Library, the Golden Gate Community Band Festival, and The Martinez 4th of July Parade.
The Diablo Regional Concert Band started in 1910, though the group was originally called the Martinez Liberty Band. The first director of the organization was Rudulfo Kelley. The band had many names over the years, like the Martinez Municipal Band and the Martinez Community Band. The group currently performs under the direction of Cora Martens. Rehearsals for the organization are held at the Martinez Adult School every Thursday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
The concert will be held on Monday, December 11th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. The sponsor of the performance is the Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library, and the regional band’s show is free for the public to watch. No registration is required. Libraries that hold band performances like this may use printing services to make ads they can post on their bulletin boards.
