The Mycological Society of San Francisco (MSSF) will be holding an event in Pleasant Hill at Diablo Valley College’s horticulture department.
The MSSF Fungus Fair is an educational experience where guests can learn about species of fungi from throughout the Bay Area. The convention will include a naturalistic woodland display, mushroom cooking tutorials, and informative tables that teach attendees about subjects like medicinal mushrooms and fungi cultivation. People can bring in their own fungi samples to be identified at one of the tables during the conference. The fair will also have mushroom-themed crafting activities.
The MSSF is a group founded in 1950 that seeks to promote the enjoyment and understanding of fungi. The organization hosts many types of events, including mushroom walks, camping trips, cooking courses, and classes on fungi identification. Members of the society have assisted the California Poison Control system by offering their toxicology and identification expertise during suspected poisoning cases. Lifetime memberships to the group cost $350 for adults and $200 for seniors.
The fungus convention will be held on Sunday, January 29 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. General admission to the fair is $20 for adults, and discounts are available for students, seniors, and those ages 6-18. Organizations that promote educational fairs such as this may use brochure printing to provide guests with informative materials to take home.
