Pleasant Hill library to host shadow puppet performance
The Firelight Shadow Theater will be visiting the Pleasant Hill location of the Contra Costa County Library in September.
Spin Me a Shadow, Tell Me a Tale is a program where attendees can watch a master shadow puppeteer put on a fast-paced performance. The show will consist of five famous folktales from around the world. Daniel Barash, the owner and creative director of the Firelight Shadow Theater, will be performing at the event. Barash is a graduate of New York University and is a National Teaching Artist for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The Firelight Shadow Theater gives live shadow puppet performances to audiences in several states throughout the United States. The group can perform at virtual and in-person assemblies. Schools, libraries, and recreation centers may pay for professional shadow puppet workshops where students can learn how to make their own puppets and conduct private performances for their fellow classmates. The starting cost for booking a workshop with Barash is $350.
The shadow puppet performance will be held on Tuesday, September 5 from 6:30 pm to 7:15 pm. All ages are welcome to attend the show, and registration is not required to see Barash’s performance. Libraries that host unique events such as this may use printing services to make customized posters and flyers for their activities.
