Oceanside writers event just around the corner

Oceanside’s annual literary festival, Write On, Oceanside!, hosted by the Oceanside Public Library and the Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation, is nearly upon us.

This will be the 12th year for the festival, the purpose of which is to inspire and celebrate local writers. There is no charge for the event, taking place at the Civic Center Plaza, to either the authors or the public. Poster printing services excel at promoting events like this.

One of the events the writers can participate in is the Six Word Story Contest. This involves writing a complete story in six words and is based on a story Ernest Hemingway once produced after accepting a challenge to write a story containing only six words.

Another option for writers is the 500 words or less Writing Challenge where the theme “Getting Through to the Other Side…in Oceanside” can be used in prose or poetry. Writers are reminded that Write On, Oceanside! is a family-friendly event and to keep this in mind when creating their entries.

The deadline for contest submissions is August 1. Entries for the six-word story can be submitted to https://ocaf.info/write-on/ and submissions for the 500 word Writing Challenge can be sent to oceansidepubliclibrary@gmail.com using “Getting Through to the Other Side…in Oceanside” in the subject line.

Winners will be announced during the event on August 13, which runs from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
