Oceanside looks for new city manager

The city of Oceanside is currently seeking its next city manager and is asking anyone interested in the job to submit their résumé electronically, along with six professional references and a cover letter.

Those hoping to change their title on their Business Cards to ‘Oceanside City Manager’ can learn more about the position by checking out the four-page color brochure that was recently added to the city’s website. Among information found there is the starting annual salary of $271,437 and the included $500-per-month car allowance.

According to the brochure:

“The ideal candidate will be a visionary, strategic and high-energy leader who can work with city council, staff and key stakeholders to achieve economic growth and improve quality of life for a diverse community.”

Oceanside has been without a city manager since March 23 when the person holding that position, Deanna Lorson, resigned. Deputy City Manager Jonathan Borrego was immediately appointed to the position on an interim basis that same day. A contract formalizing Borrego’s interim position was approved by City Council in early April.

Borrego has worked in Oceanside for over four years and has 34 years of experience in municipal government. Lorson rose to the city manager position after having worked as an Oceanside city employee for over four years, and after having worked previously in administrative roles in other cities in California.

Applications for the position need to be made by June 17.
