The Oceanside Public Library is joining with the Filipino-American Cultural Organization (FACO) to host a celebration of Filipino culture.
The theme of the 18th Annual Filipino Cultural Celebration this year is “The Filipino Imagination in the Western World: The Myths, the Legends and the Native History.” Those who attend will enjoy a full day of wonderful Filipino cuisine; Philippine music, folk dancing, and costumes; and special performances by talented local members of the Filipino community.
Other highlights of the day include crowning the 2019 Miss Pre-teen Fil-Am, Little Miss Fil-Am, and Little Mr. POGI. All the winners and candidates of the Mrs. Fil-Am competition will be introduced, and attendees will be able to enjoy dances from the Visayan Islands, Mindanao, and Luzon, performed by the FACO Cultural Dance Group. Scholarships will be given to deserving high school seniors in the Filipino-American community, both in North San Diego County and the Philippines.
Activities and crafts suitable for children will be found in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms' courtyard, while inside, there will be a display of Philippine collectibles. Videos about Filipino tourism and cooking will play on a continuous loop, and a number of vendors will be available on the Plaza. Organizers of events like this have the option of using banner printing to make colorful decorations.
The festival, which is free and open to all, is set for June 8, from 12.00 noon until 6.30 pm. The Civic Center is on North Coast Highway in Oceanside.
