Governor considers cancellation of gas tax increase

Oceanside residents may get a break on what they pay for gasoline, if Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposal to eliminate this year’s summer gas tax hike is given the go-ahead.

Recently Newson revealed his budget plan that includes what he is calling his “$523 million gas tax holiday.” Newson explained that:

"We're going to backfill it in terms of the tax itself to transportation projects so that there's no direct impact to investments."

Each year California makes inflation adjustment on gasoline prices to ensure the revenue from the gas tax maintains its buying power for the state. This takes place every July; last year it amounted to a 51.1 cent increase. Stillwater Associates, after crunching the numbers discovered that drivers in the Golden State were paying about $1.18 a gallon in taxes and fees.

Banner printing services are used by a variety of businesses, including gas stations to incentivize the public to stop and come inside.

The Golden State’s average price for gasoline was $4.65 a gallon, only a dime less than the state’s record high average price of $4.71, which occurred November 27, 2021. San Diego County’s gas prices have remained closely aligned with the rest of the state.

Currently, California’s revenues are impressively high and the governor is proposing a budget that will back off from tax hikes to mitigate the effects of inflation.
