Nursery in Long Beach plans fundraiser

A fundraiser with a 1930s theme will be held soon to benefit a day nursery’s services and programs.

The effort is an annual event for the Long Beach Day Nursery (LBDN), which looks after working parents’ young children, giving them high-quality early education and care. Michele Dobson is the LBDN’s board chair, and notes that the nursery has been in business for more than 100 years. The board is all-volunteer, and Dobson says she is proud of them and the nursery for their commitment to the children and their parents, who come from every socio-economic level. The nursery staff understands that a solid start in childhood provides a foundation for a successful life.

This particular event is the nursery’s signature fundraiser, and is known as ‘Swing for Tots’. The “swing” in the name comes from the style of music that was popular in the 1930s, so it’s fitting that Phil Crosby Jr., Bing Crosby’s grandson, will perform. There will also be a silent auction, a live auction, and a buffet of brunch items. Event organizers can use banner printing to create fun decorations for venues.

This year’s Swing for Tots is set for this Saturday, May 18, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, in the Queen’s Salon of the Queen Mary, which is docked in Long Beach. Tickets are $65, which includes entertainment, brunch, and admission to the Queen Mary for the entire day.
