Long Beach to be site of holiday kayaking event
For those who might be growing tired of holiday parties and other traditional seasonal activities, Long Beach has a suggestion—go kayaking.
HiKing-with-Friends is organizing the free KayaKing-with-Santa Hats event, which will take place near the Leeway Sailing Center. The outing is exactly what it sounds like: participants will be kayaking, and are encouraged to dress in Santa hats and/or season colors to continue the festivities.
Organizers have put some rules in place to make certain the event is safe and enjoyable, and that everyone knows what to expect. First, they ask participants to like their Facebook page, where all the details of the event will be posted. Once someone who is interested has read all the information about the event, they should RSVP, and plan to arrive at the event site. All participants absolutely must be able to swim. Banner printing can provide fun decorations for outdoor events like this.
It's suggested that kayakers bring water, sunscreen, water shoes, a dry sack, and sun block. The venue will provide kayaks and paddles, life vests, zip log baggies to keep possessions dry, and a map.
Kayakers are asked to gather at the boat launch, which is at the right side of the Leeway Sailing Center. The date of the festival is December 27, and everyone is asked to be at the site by 8:30 am. The event has a Facebook page, but RSVPs are to be made separately via Eventbrite.
