What's Happening in Long Beach, CA…

Long Beach city manager resigning

Long Beach’s long-time city manager is resigning to move into the private sector, according to an article in the Press Telegram.

In a recent surprise announcement, Pat West said he is stepping down as the Long Beach City Manager in order to move to the private sector. He has been on the job for the past twelve years, and said:

“[it is a] good time for me to go and allow for new leadership for the city.”

West spent time with Long Beach’s mayor, Robert Garcia, and members of the city council, discussing his decision. He said the decision was all him, and that he has a great relationship with other city officials. He added that he loves the city and everything he and his colleagues have been able to achieve, but he’s been in the positon for many years, and would like to move on to something different. His present plans are to relax, and then develop a consulting business.

For his part, Mayor Garcia thanked West for his friendship and “extraordinary leadership,” noting that West cares deeply for Long Beach, and was able to pull together a “dynamic team” that works every day to make Long Beach better. He added that everyone is going to miss West, but are excited to see what he’ll do next. Corporate gifts are often given to mark occasions like this.

West’s resignation is effective September 20. No replacement has been announced.
