Fire-resistant landscaping to be taught in Long Beach

Some parts of California may be prone to wildfires, and a Long Beach area workshop will give the public knowledge they can use to help reduce the risks.

The West Basin Municipal Water District has teamed up with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and also the City of Rancho Palos Verdes to offer a landscaping seminar. It is geared towards peninsula residents, and it's scheduled for early November.

The session will introduce the value of fire-resistant landscaping practices, and it will be interactive. Topics such as defensible space and first five feet will be discussed, as well as tips for choosing native plants that have evolved to be resistant to wildfires. Time for questions has been built into the agenda and the activity will be on offer at Hesse Park which can be found at 29391 Hawthorne Boulevard in Rancho Palos Verdes.

An information session or presentation provides a way to keep the public informed about issues impacting the local area. A brochure printing company will be pleased to supply leaflets and other materials to distribute during an event.

This introduction to the importance of utilizing fire-resistant landscaping techniques will be offered at McTaggart Hall in Rancho Palos Verde on November 1st. Everyone who signs up has been asked to be in their seat by 6:00pm sharp.
