What's Happening in Long Beach, CA…

Comedy with a point coming to Long Beach

A comedy troupe that has been making people laugh for many years is on its way to Long Beach.

The Capitol Steps got started in 1981, when members of Senator Charles Percy's staff were trying to devise Christmas party entertainment. They considered various ideas, but none seemed to suit, until they decided to use current news as their subject. Since they worked in Congress, politics seemed like a natural source of material, and they created satirical skits and song parodies based on issues of the day.

The members of the Capitol Steps have changed over the years, and now not all are former Congressional staffers. However, those performers who once worked in Washington, D.C., have a total of 62 years' experience in the Senate and House, in 18 different offices. The group has appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS, and has made more than 35 albums.

A review of one of the performances highlights the fact that the Capitol Steps are gifted performers who can sing, dance, and act:

“Each and every single performer was a perfect casting for their character, right down to voices and specific gestures.”

The Capitol Steps will appear at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach on January 11. There are two shows scheduled: a 2:00 pm matinee, and an evening performance at 8:00 pm. Brochure printing can be used to create programs for events like this, and include a description of the group.
