A royal day in Long Beach

People who wonder what life was like in the court of Louis XIV of France have a chance to find out, when a concert takes audiences through a day with the monarch.

The performance, entitled “24 Hours in Versailles,” recreates what a day might have been like for Roi Soleil, the Sun King. Louis XIV reigned from 1643 until 1715, and increased French influence throughout the world. In France, he increased his own influence by bringing nobles to Versailles, where a ritual was set up allowing them to observe the king throughout out the day.

The musical evening reflects this daily observation, starting with the music used to awaken the king, and following with music for banquets, dances, church services, and that played at dinner. The composers and pieces scheduled are:

“Mouvements de trio” by Jean Baptiste Lully;

“Suite de Symphonies” by Jean-Joseph Mouret;

“La Sonnerie” and “Trios pour le courcher du roi” by Marin Marais;

“Deuxieme Leçon de tenebres” by François Couperin; and

“Les Indes galantes” by Jean Phillippe Rameau.

Gonzalo X. Ruiz will conduct, and soprano Molly Netter will handle the vocals. The orchestra features percussion, woodwinds, and brass that will take attendees back to Versailles to spend a day with the Sun King.

The concert is set for February 7, from 8.00 am until 10.00 pm, at the Beverly O'Neill Theatre on East Ocean Boulevard. Poster printing can be used to create great advertisements for events like this.
