Warehouse giant brings gas station to Lake Forest area

Costco has opened a standalone gas station in Mission Viejo, marking the first in the country not to be attached to a Costco store.

As its prices are lower than the average price for gas in Orange County, residents of Lake Forest who are members of Costco Warehouse might be interested in filling up at this gas station.

Its gas canopy spans 17,185 square feet and has 40 fueling positions. It replaces a commercial building that was once home to a Bed Bath & Beyond. This is a new strategy of expansion for the company as it continues to place greater emphasis on the fuel arm of its business. Sites like this could benefit from professional banner printing to inform residents and those in the area of new offerings.

Ron Vachris, President and CEO of Costco, and Gary Millerhsip, Chief Financial Officer, said that the fuel side of the company is helping to strengthen the loyalty of its customers across its broader operations. Millerchip said:

“We’re seeing some members that have been members for some time but are using the gas stations for the first time — we think that’s also an encouraging sign for long-term loyalty.”

Costco’s second standalone gas station is currently being developed in Honolulu, Hawaii and is expected to be completed in 2027.
