The national airline of Switzerland, Swiss International Air Lines, has recently partnered with Panasonic Avionics, headquartered in Lake Forest, to provide enhanced connectivity services for its passengers while on board its planes.
Global in-flight Wi-Fi and 3G phone services from Panasonic’s Global Communications Services will be provided on nine Swiss Airlines Boeing 777-300s. These broadband offerings from Panasonic will enable passengers to surf the internet, use email, and make calls while in flight.
In addition, eXcite2 software from Panasonic will be included in the airline’s in-flight entertainment systems. This will provide passengers with 3D effects and animation, the ability to use touchscreens for navigation, richer content, and more dynamic graphics.
According to the CEO and President of Panasonic Avionics, Paul Margis, Panasonic has a significant global network and is the right choice for the airline as seeks to offer its passengers more connectivity while in flight. The airline will also benefit from the implementation of eXcite2, as it will enable the airline to enhance its brand and open up new revenue opportunities, Margis adds.
Chief Commercial Officer and Member of the Executive Board of the airline, Markus Binkert, added that a new dimension of air travel experience will now be enjoyed by passengers as a result of the recently deployed in-flight connectivity.
Most likely, the airline and Panasonic are working together on promotional services to let potential customers know about these features and how they can enhance their trips while aboard the planes.
