Southern-style buffet restaurant fills Lake Forest niche

A new Lake Forest restaurant, Celebrity Soul Food Buffet, is offering a 8,500 square foot all-you-can-eat buffet.

The owners opened their new establishment last month in the former Dragon Buffet location at 24416 Muirlands Blvd. Looking to provide more than just food, owners Fredrick and Taja Jacobs said in an Orange County Register article that they envisioned a place at which families could connect over a home-cooked meal of barbecue, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and other Southern stables.

No strangers to the restaurant business, the Jacobses, who moved to California with their two school-age children in December, ran three eateries in Florida. Once here, the lack of the type of food they specialized in while living in the Sunshine State became apparent.

Upon seeing a niche they could fill, the next step was to find the most receptive community in which to locate their restaurant. They surmised that the Lake Forest community would be responsive to not only the food but the family friendly, hospitable ambiance the Jacobs hope to provide.
