Seniors in Lake Forest area receive special scholarships

Four local winners of college scholarships in partnership with Simon Youth Foundation (SYF) were recently announced by The Shops at Mission Viejo.

The SYF is a national nonprofit whose goal is to provide educational opportunities for students of diverse backgrounds who live within 50 miles of The Shops, which includes Lake Forest.

A SYF Award of Excellence Scholarship of $10,000 was given to Katherine Robinson, who recently graduated from Aliso Niguel High in Aliso Viejo. The SYF Community Scholarship of $1,500 was given to Rebecca Culbertson of Woodbridge High School. This scholarship is based on leadership involvement at school and in the community, financial need, and academic achievement.

Two students also graduated from the Simon Youth Academy at The Shops at Mission Viejo. This is a nontraditional high school where at-risk students have a more flexible environment for learning than at a traditional high school. These students also received scholarships; a two-year scholarship of $8,000 scholarship was awarded to Nicolette Weathersby, while Ashlyn Caceres received a four-year scholarship of $32,000.

Simon Supports Education is a movement by the management of The Shops to increase educational opportunities for students of all backgrounds, and make shoppers aware of the mission of the SYF.

Printing services can be used to create various materials that can be distributed throughout such shopping centers so that residents become aware of such efforts and their benefits for students in the community.
