New fees to go into effect for skating park

Lake Forest is planning to raise fees beginning with the new year for those planning to visit the Lake Forest Etnies Skate park.

Mayor Mark Tettemer said that revenues from fees account for six percent of the city’s budget. The fee schedule had not been reviewed in over a decade and a consultant for the city helped to determine a schedule that more accurately reflected costs for civic events. The hike in fees will also help to make special programs at the park more self-supporting.

Director of Community Services, Scott Wasserman, said that the new fees for the park will help to cover some of the expenses related to running the park and will help ensure its viability in the long term.

Currently, children who skate at the park show proof of residency and pay a $15 waiver that covers free skating for the year. The waiver fee and an annual membership is required for non-residents.

Flyer printing can be used to outline such new fee schedules. The new fee schedule will require residents to pay an annual membership fee of $50 for children aged 17 and younger and $10 for each additional child. Nonresidents will pay an annual membership fee of $150 per year.

Tettemer acknowledged that city councils prefer not to raise fees, but this new fee schedule needed to be implemented.
