New disc golf course opens in Lake Forest

In its latest move to transform itself from a traditional 9-hole golf course into a recreational center, the Lake Forest Golf and Practice Center has added a permanent disc golf course to its menu of activities.

On November 25, the Center inaugurated its new disc golf option, with a night tournament with 40 participants held on a lighted nine-hole lighted course. Disc golf joins foot golf, which was added in 2014 and, of course, traditional golf at the Center.

Disc golf involves throwing a Frisbee, as opposed to driving a golf ball. As with foot and traditional golf, the objective of disc golf is to obtain as low as score (by number of throws) as possible. The Par-29 nine-hole course covers a total of 1,198 yards.

Lake Forest residents are privileged to have one of only two courses in the U.S. that offers each of the three types of golf, and the only one that is public. Letting people know the unique options available to them in the way of multiple Forms of golfing will need to be vigorously promoted, with Flyers likely being the most cost-effective choice.

To encourage residents to try out the new course, special events will be offered beginning tonight, with a free clinic at 6:00 pm. This will be followed an hour later by a doubles tournament.
