Lake Forest to offer views from outer space

Images that have been recently released from the most powerful and largest telescope that has been launched into space will be able to be viewed by the public later this month in Lake Forest.

Richard Stember and Ruth Kurisu, NASA Solar System Ambassadors, will be sharing the first images the James Webb Space Telescope has been gathering at a program at the Performing Arts Center on Civis Center Drive in Lake Forest. This will include a special question and answer session. Such programs are often promoted throughout a community with poster printing.

Attendees will learn about the workings of the Webb Telescope, what it will explore while in space, and how it will transform what is known about the universe.

The Webb Space Telescope was launched on Christmas Day, 2021 from French Guiana in South America. The telescope is designed to investigate the recesses of the universe to enable astronomers to gain insight into the period of time just after the Big Bang during which the first galaxies were formed. The telescope is named for the administrator of NASA who led the organization as the United States raced to the moon.

The program will take place on Thursday, August 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and is free and open to the public. Science Heads Inc. and the city of Lake Forest are hosting the program.
