The city of Lake Forest is currently sponsoring a Hometown Hero Banner Program that is designed for residents who wish to honor someone from the city who has served in the military or has a connection to the city who has also served in the military. This person can be from any branch of the armed forces and can be retired, deceased, or currently serving.
There will 20 banners made available to purchase. These will be flown on the campus of the Civic Center along Civic Center Drive. The cost of a banner is $300 and includes the name of the person being honored, their branch in the armed forces, and a formal military photograph. Banner printing companies are typically hired to create such special banners.
Each banner will be displayed for a period of one year. After that time, the one who purchased the banner will be able to keep it.
The qualifications for a person being honored with a banner include being able to verify the status of their duty and their connection to the city of Lake Forest. The person can be a resident and immediate family member of a current resident. This means they can a husband or wife, daughter or son, granddaughter or grandson, or daughter-in-law or son-in-law.
The Hometown Heroes Banner Program started in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 2006.
