Lake Forest ranks high among safest cities in California

Safewise recently announced that Lake Forest is among the top 50 safest cities in California.

There are 482 municipalities in California, and among them, those in Orange County garnered about a quarter of these designations. Lake Forest was ranked as the 33rd safest city.

Safewise, which provides resources and information about safety, reviewed census population data and crime statistics from the FBI for 2016 for the report. The company looked at the number of violent crimes, such as robbery, aggravated assault, and murder, that were reported per 1,000 people in each city. It also looked at crime-related property.

The study involved creating population thresholds, and those cities that did not file an FBI crime report or fell below that threshold were excluded from the list.

Lake Forest, according to the analysis carried out by Safewise, had 8.93 property crimes per 1,000 people and 1.26 violent crimes per 1,000 people. The ratio of property crimes to violent crimes was 6:1.

Irvine, a close neighbor of Lake Forest, was found to be the safest town in Orange County. The number of violent crimes was 0.57 per 1,000 people, and property crimes accounted for 14.01 per 1,000 people.
