City clerk dons red for heart health month

Stephanie Smith, the City Clerk for Lake Forest, decided to wear red not only on National Wear Red Day, which was February 3, but every day throughout the month, as a way to raise awareness for women’s heart health.

February is Heart Health Month and as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and everyone wears pink for the month, she felt that the same could be applicable for February. Smith added that the facts show that heart disease is much more deadly for women than it is for men.

Each day, she creates a new post on her Facebook page and shares some information about how women can be aware of their heart health and remain healthy. She said she had to add to her wardrobe so that she could carry out her promise for the month.

Sally Stewart of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center said that the symptoms of heart disease are also different for women than they are for men and are often misdiagnosed by individuals as well as doctors. She added that a tingling in the arm is a sign of a heart for men while women may experience nausea, extreme fatigue, and back pain.

Flyer printing companies can also be used to create Flyers to spread awareness not only in Lake Forest but also across Orange County and southern California about heart health in women and its ramifications.
