The Lake Forest City Council recently voted to include discussions about building a Boys and Girls facility within city limits as part of the city’s five-year strategic plan.
Discussion on the strategic plan is scheduled for the Council’s July meeting.
Representatives from the Laguna Beach branch of the Boys and Girls Club have been working with city staff since October, looking for potential sites in the Southwest portion of the city where summer and after school programs could be held. After reviewing several sites, the two sides decided that El Toro Park would be the most suitable.
Councilman Dwight Robinson commented that it makes most sense to build such a facility at a park with which the kids are most familiar. This facility has been discussed in the community for many years, as many children are now either driven by their parents or bussed to the Laguna Beach Branch.
Robinson has requested that negotiations begin on an agreement with the Boys and Girls Club to redesign the site and the park for such a facility, and to provide their results to the City Council in time for the July meeting.
A local printing company could be used to create documents with all the information the Council would need, helping it determine the fiscal responsibilities of the city should the facility become a reality.
