An event to help owners protect their vehicles scheduled in Downey.
Catalytic converters are emissions control devices that are part of a vehicle’s exhaust system. They transform toxic engine gases into water and CO2, which are harmless to the environment. To do this, they use precious metals such as platinum and rhodium. A downside is that this makes them attractive to thieves, but the Downey Police Department has an answer to this problem.
The police have scheduled an event at which residents can protect themselves and their cars. The second Etch Your Catalytic Converter with the Downey Police Department event is free, although it is limited only to residents of the city, and reservations are required. Residents who choose to attend will have their license plate number engraved upon the converter. This is a theft deterrent as well as an aid to law enforcement officers who investigate stolen converters.
To keep everyone safe and healthy, the police have set a limit of 240 vehicles in total, handling 60 per hour. Participants will need to be both a resident of Downey and the registered vehicle owner, and should bring their ticket with them. They will also need to present their vehicle registration and driver’s license. The vehicle’s owner must be present, and masks are required. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for events of this type.
The event is set for this Saturday, June 5, from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm at Titan Transportation on Woodruff Avenue.
