Downey welcomes holiday artisan market

Downey residents can combine holiday cheer and shopping as well when a one-day fair highlighting custom crafts comes to town.

Stonewood Center has announced a mid-December artisan market. The Simply Crafted Market will feature several activities of interest to patrons, including live music, food trucks, activities for kids, and shopping with over 50 vendors. Youngsters can have their faces painted, view crafts made especially for kids, write letters to Santa, and even visit with Santa live. Iced coffee and baked goods will be available as well.

Simply Crafted Markets is a business owned by Martha Avendano and began as an extension of her own artistic work. She turned her passion for making and selling crafts into a business that creates market showplaces for artisans. Avendano’s business was highlighted in 2023 on Good Day LA on Fox 11 News.

Stonewood Center opened in 1958 and was expanded considerably in the 1960s. It currently contains over 140 stores, anchored by familiar names like Macy’s, Kohl’s, and J.C. Penney.

The Simply Crafted Market will be held Saturday, December 13, from 12:00 to 6:00 PM. The location is a parking lot off Lakewood Boulevard, located at 251 Stonewood Street in Downey. The event is open to the public with free parking available. Those interested in acquiring vendor space may apply on the Simply Crafted Markets website. Banner printing and other services from Print shops can help promote open public markets.
