The Downey Symphony's 60th anniversary is coming up, and the orchestra has devised a cabaret-style entertainment that will take place on the Downey Theatre stage.
The fun starts when arriving guests are offered champagne, and then seated in the auditorium to listen to Three's Company. This trio comprises bassist Mark Artusio, drummer Bill Hare, and pianist and composer Lars Clutterham, who will be playing oldies for guests to listen to.
From the auditorium, guests will move to the stage itself, which will be arranged in the same sections the musicians sit in when they play. Hors d'oeuvres and complimentary wine will be served while Clutterham continues playing. After guests have had a chance to chat, Fabian Chavez, a jazz saxophonist, and Rachael Lorenzetti, a vocalist, will join with Three's Company to continue the musical entertainment.
Guests will receive toy instruments that correspond to the orchestra section in which they are sitting, and Carolyn Osborn, the concertmaster, will help everyone ‘tune’. Music Director Sharon Lavery will take the podium then, and lead the ‘orchestra’ in a rendition of ‘Happy Anniversary’ while a cake is served.
The fun starts at 4:00 pm this evening (July 1), and reservations are $60. The event is not a fundraiser, so the charge is simply to cover the costs. Reservations can be made at downeysymphoney.org, or by phoning (562) 928-4122.
