A popular film will be shown in Downey, and people are invited to attend and air their voices.
“Grease,” which was released in 1978, starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, and was a smash hit, returning $396m on a $6m budget. The soundtrack album was the second-highest selling soundtrack that year, finishing second to “Saturday Night Fever,” which had been released the year before.
The romantic comedy depicts the relationship between high-school students Danny Zuko (Travolta), part of the “greaser” subculture, and Sandy Olsson (Newton-John), a transfer student from Australia. Zuko has no interest in the wholesome Sandy, until she puts on a tight black leather outfit, transforming into the most beautiful girl at school.
Songs from the film include “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Other songs include “Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On,” “La Bamba,” “Tears on My Pillow,” and, of course, “You're the One that I Want.” Many of the songs were not written for the film, but reflect the era portrayed in the movie. Flyer printing can be used to create announcements of events like this.
At this time, the fun is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm on June 14 at the Downey Civic Theatre, where attendees are encouraged to do the hand jive while they sing with the characters on screen. Interested parties should check with the venue for changes.
