CVS Pharmacy, a drugstore chain based in Rhode Island, has recently opened four CVS ‘Pharmacy y más’ stores in Southern California in an attempt to attract more Latino shoppers.
The stores currently open are in South El Monte, Santa Ana, Bell and Walnut Park, just a short distance from Downey. CVS plans to bring a total of nine CVS Pharmacy y mas stores to Southern California by the end of August.
These stores feature more than 1,500 new items that range from Mexican home remedies to brands and snacks, as well as bilingual signage and price tags. Some of the items include dried chili peppers and spices, cold sodas from brands such as Jarritos and Jumex, and Fabuloso multipurpose cleaners.
The prices are lower on most products, except prescriptions. Self-serve kiosks for money transfers and bill paying have also been added to the stores.
According to the director of strategic growth for CVS, Lisa Grubbs, the goal of the y más stores is to be a one-stop shop for Latino customers by providing the depth of assortment these shoppers tend to want.
The concept was debuted in Florida last year and is now aimed at the estimated six million Latinos living in Los Angeles and Orange counties.
CVS might benefit from printing Flyers and mailers in both English and Spanish listing all the new products in the y más stores that can be sent out to the Latino community.
