The city of Los Angeles and the Metro recently launched the bike sharing program of the Metro in downtown Los Angeles.
This means that there will be 65 locations in and around downtown Los Angeles with 1,000 bikes, meaning those coming into the city from such suburbs as Downey can rent bikes to travel throughout the city. Some of the locations where the vehicles will be available include the Los Angeles Convention Center, Chinatown, the Arts and the Fashion Districts, and Union Station.
According to the Los Angeles County Newsroom, the bike share stations are close to Metro bus stops and rail stations, so that ridership on the Metro will hopefully be increased and car trips will be reduced.
A Metro TAP card will be needed by users of the Metro to unlock the bikes from a dock. Unlimited 30-minute rides will cost $20 a month, and walk-up fares at a price of $3.50 for 30 minutes will be available beginning tomorrow, August 1.
There are plans by the Metro to expand this program in the future to East Los Angeles, the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys, and other places in the area.
The Metro may look to various printing services to make those who travel to downtown Los Angeles aware of the new program and its benefits.
