For Gilbert locals who dream of writing a novel, a chance may arrive this month.
Local author Sara Fujimura will be leading a workshop geared towards helping nonprofessionals organize their thoughts in a way that could lead to writing a full length book, whether a novel, a non-fiction discourse, or a short story collection.
The workshop will be part of the ONEBOOKAZ program, which is a series of events that have been put together by various groups to promote literacy and community reading and writing. It is being funded by Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records and is being hosted by Library Development.
The workshop will be conducted in a classroom-type format, with Fujimura offering a lecture designed to teach prospective writers how to organize ideas, thoughts, or materials into an actual book that may one day be published. Afterwards, there will be a ten-minute Q&A. Attendees are encouraged to formulate thoughts and questions prior to the workshop and to bring digital Business Cards for sharing.
The workshop is open to anyone from the 4th grade to senior citizen, and will be held Thursday, August 27 from noon to 1:00 pm at Maricopa County Library District - Southeast Regional Library, 775 North Greenfield Road, Gilbert. It will be free, but registration is recommended, as seating is limited.
