A theatre company in Paisley that is trying to create a new space for community theatre in the centre of the town has received a big funding boost, in the form of an £800,000 grant.
PACE Theatre Company is working on refurbishing a building across the road from Paisley Gilmour Street Station that used to be home to a nightclub. It is hoping that this building can be turned into a performance space for families, teenagers and children living in the area.
The grant funding towards this project, which has been named Exchange, came from the Regeneration Capital Grand Fund (RCGF) set up by the Scottish Government. Renfrewshire Council submitted a bid for one of the grants on behalf of the company.

The renovating of the building is costing £2.6m to complete and got underway in November of 2020. It will see an auditorium with seating for 300 people built, as well as spaces for other arts and community use.
When it launches it will also be the main home for PACE, with around 200 shows a year set to be performed within it. The new theatre space is scheduled to open its doors during March 2023.
