Kier is the company that is delivering the refurbishment, on behalf of OneRen and Renfrewshire Council. It marks the first major work to restore and enhance the museum that there has been in its century and a half-long history. The aim is to create a tourist destination that has a world-class reputation. None of that has changed; it is just that the opening date will now be a bit later than originally planned.
The precise nature of the issues causing the delay has not been made public, but they only became apparent during the building work. According to the Renfrewshire Gazette, OneRen and the council put out a joint statement clarifying this.
This statement then added:
“We are grateful to all our funders for their continued support as we work together to create a destination that celebrates Paisley and Renfrewshire’s unique place in the world.”
