Paisley football team launches its own beer

While football clubs have long featured sponsorship tie-ups with breweries, Scottish Premier League side St Mirren have taken things one stage further by launching their own unique brands of beer and lager.

Buddie Beer and Buddie Lager, manufactured by Lerwick Brewery in Shetland, will be stocked in both the bar and hospitality suite at the club’s St Mirren Park ground in Paisley on match days.

However, for those who support the club but are unable to make it to matches, it will also be possible to sample the beer or lager by purchasing 12-packs or mixed cases as a carry out. Furthermore, there is plenty of incentive for fans to give them a try, as a percentage from the cost of every bottle goes to the club, with commercial manager Campbell Kennedy assuring them that it will be wisely invested. He said:

“No less than 20p of every sale goes directly towards our academy funds to help develop St Mirren’s future playing talent.”

Lerwick Brewery’s manager, Rhanna Turbeville, has indicated that fans are already responding positively, saying:

“That feedback, coupled with our growing production capacity, allowed us to push ahead, safe in the knowledge we have two great products that customers really love.”

Outside of the club itself, businesses in the area are also likely to benefit, with local retailers set to enjoy healthy sales of both brews. There is also the potential for a Print company in Paisley to provide the labels featuring St Mirren’s colours and imagery, and poster printing to help promote the products amongst supporters of the club.
