The Paisley 10k, which raises money for the British Heart Foundation Scotland, has proven to be a huge hit in recent years. The 2013 race saw approximately 1,500 people take part, and the organisers hope that they will exceed that number this time around.
As with other local charity events, the 10k race can rely on poster and flyer printing from the Print shops in Paisley for additional publicity, and it is an event suitable for everyone – both those who are dedicated runners, and people who simply want to set themselves a challenge. The competitors begin and end their race at County Square, with the route seeing them run in a loop round the town’s centre before heading west.
Jim Harte, the local council convenor of the Sport, Leisure and Culture Policy Board for Renfrewshire, said:
“Last year, runners who registered online raised £1,500, so they literally gave ‘pound for pound’ by hitting the road.”
He added that he hoped the Glasgow Commonwealth Games would increase interest in the race this year – with people unable to face the 10k race having the option of the 3km Fun Run.
