New homes planned for office site in Paisley

A number of new homes could be constructed at a site in Paisley that was formerly home to the town’s branch of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The DWP office, situated in the Lonend area of Paisley, closed down two years ago and the building has remained vacant since then. Now, Plans have been submitted to Renfrewshire Council by Ambassador Residential to knock this building down and construct a housing development in its place. If given the nod, the development will consist of 38 flats, 11 houses and spaces for car parking.

The site measures 0.57 hectares and has been home to many different buildings over the years. Before the DWP, it was mostly occupied by factories, including Gleniffer Soap and Saucel Iron Works, along with flour mills, dye works and a brewery.

Now, it could potentially be turned into much-needed housing. When developers complete new residential schemes, they often turn to organisations offering high-quality brochure printing so that they can advertise the homes to prospective buyers.

This particular site has been designated as brownfield land and the developers have brought in Fairhurst, an engineering company, to assess the flood risk due to near location to Espedair Burn and the White Cart Water.

The council is expected to make a decision during September.
