Paisley Community Trust (PCT) is in talks to acquire a spot in Paisley High Street currently home to Bargain Buys, with the plan being to build a cinema for the community there. The projected cost of the build is £12 million and PCT is hoping that, if it succeeds in agreeing a deal for the site, the cinema could create jobs for over 50 people.
In addition to being a welcome new entertainment option, PCT believes that the cinema would boost the economy of the town by £40 million. Cinemas can provide opportunities for other local businesses, such as printers, who can produce tie-in Promotional Products for films that can be given away.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Garry Kerr from PCT said:
“We think this is going to be a massive shot in the arm for Paisley because the town has been bereft of cinema for 30 years.”
The Plans put forward by the PCT include five screening rooms, which would each have space for up to 160 people, a film museum, digital skills academy and several bar and restaurant spaces. The aim is for the cinema to open in 2023.
