Kier Construction Limited will be taking on the role of main works contractor for this ambitious project, with the main works programme expected to cost £23 million to complete. The Council views the radical overhaul of Paisley Museum as a major part of the town’s post-COVID-19 economic recovery, as it will create jobs as the work is being carried out, and will hopefully increase visitor numbers and economic activity when completed.
The expectation is that the revamped museum will bring around 128,000 people to Paisley every year, which in turn will inject £79m extra into the economy of the local area during the next three decades.
It will also likely bring knock-on benefits to businesses in the town, such as outlets that offer brochure printing, which will be needed to provide Brochures for visitors.
Speaking to Scottish Construction Now, Kirsty Devine, the project director for Paisley Museum Reimagined, said:
“The approval to appoint the main works contractor is an exciting step forward in realising our ambitions of radically transforming this prominent symbol of Paisley’s past for future generations.”
Work on the museum building is due to get underway early in the summer and be finished by the end of 2022.
