It has been announced that the main library in Paisley is in the running for a major architecture award, having made it to the final stages of the competition.
Paisley Central Library could win a prize at the annual AJ Architecture Awards. It is in contention within the civic project section, where it has made the final shortlist. Now, it will come up against the other three remaining buildings as the judges decide which deserves to win the prize.
Its rivals for the award are Tower Hamlets Town Hall, Sidcup Storyteller and the Shipman Youth Zone.
The library is a four-storey building that offers a range of facilities for the local community within a cutting-edge design. It is at the centre of the Paisley Learning and Cultural Hub, which is a regeneration project that will cost £7 million to complete.
Inside the building, there is a special library for children and zone for storytelling, in addition to a slide and climbing wall. This latter feature was the work of Claire Barclay, an artist.
Local facilities like this library sometimes choose to advertise through the use of promotional Pens from Paisley shops, displaying their name and logo.
Since it opened, the library has been used for several major events, including the annual Paisley Book Festival.
The winning buildings will be revealed on Tuesday, 3 December.Get a Free Quote for Pens
